Curfew put in Place for Safety

SUMTER, SC (Oct. 4, 2015) – A curfew is being put in place overnight from 7 p.m. today until 7 a.m. Monday and until further notice for the protection of residents.

Emergency and government officials are asking all residents to remain in a safe, dry location until further notice. Many roadways will remain dangerous to travel, many impassable, as the heavy rains continue. Conditions are likely to deteriorate throughout the night.

Because of the expected lingering road conditions, schools with the Sumter School District will be closed on Monday.

City and County administrative employees are not to report to work Monday.

In non-life-threatening matters, call the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700 or 436-2790. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at (803) 436-2000. For emergencies, dial 911.
