Whether you are looking for an outdoor space in a natural setting for a small group meeting or picnic, or you're in need of a larger-scale theater-style setting for a large group or presentation, Sumter has the space for your event!

Our community is home to multiple venues in a wide variety of formats under public and private ownership. View the listings below to explore rental options throughout the City of Sumter! All events, no matter the theme or topic, held on city grounds must have prior written approval, some of these spaces are fee based, while others are free of charge, please contact the Visitors Center at (803) 436-2640 for details.

 

AQUATICS CENTER

Description: Rentals available for pool parties! This center meets requirements for competition swim meets and equipped with swim lanes, slide, and wade-pool entrance with fountain.

Rentals are currently closed, due to construction.

BIRNIE HOPE CENTER
210 S. Purdy Street

Gymnasium with Kitchen - Multi-purpose Room - Outside Pavilion
Seating Capacity: 400

Description: The City of Sumter's three HOPE Centers provide spacious, modern meeting facilities in various areas of the city. Multipurpose rooms, complete with stages and adjacent warming kitchens available, can accommodate large or small groups. The Birnie HOPE Center is conveniently located at 210 S Purdy Street and is available for Friday evening and Saturday rentals. Each facility can seat up to 400.

THE MEETING HOUSE AT MEMORIAL PARK
407 W. Hampton Street
Parking at 112 N. Salem Avenue

Description: The Meeting House at Memorial Park is located at 407 W. Hampton Street and features a large, open event space suitable for up to 85 people. Located directly adjacent to Memorial Park, this facility was built in 2019 as an addition to the historic Rutledge-Sumter House. Amenities include restrooms, kitchen access with a commercial refrigerator, sink and microwave, two small conference spaces, two large monitors with HDMI plug-ins, a podium with built-in microphone and speakers and several seating options including eight (8) round tables, three (3) rectangular tables and chairs.

MEMORIAL PARK GAZEBO
112 N. Salem Avenue

Description: Memorial Park Gazebo is a majestic Greek-styled structure located amidst the imposing oak trees and cultivated gardens of the historic district's Memorial Park. It provides a secluded location with a splashing fountain and blanket of lush vegetation as the background for a range of gatherings.

NORTH HOPE CENTER

The South HOPE Center is conveniently located at 1125 S Lafayette Drive and is available for Friday evening and Saturday rentals. Each facility can seat up to 400.

SWAN LAKE GARDEN STREET SHELTER
Swan Lake Iris Gardens - 350 Garden Street

Covered Picnic Shelter Located along Garden Street - 8 Picnic Tables - Seats 65

Description: The Garden Street Shelter is beautifully situated among towering pines and magnolias on the gently sloping grounds of the Heath gardens, and offers a stunning panoramic view of swan Lake. The facility features eight picnic tables and space for a portable grill (please see Visitor's Center staff for grilling guidelines). Public restrooms are located nearby. The shelter offers a comfortable setting for any outdoor get-together.

SWAN LAKE GAZEBO
Swan Lake Iris Gardens, 822 W. Liberty Street - Bland Side

Description: Swan Lake Iris Gardens Gazebo is a picturesque Victorian-style structure nestled among fragrant spring blooms and the lush green year-round landscape of the historic Bland Gardens. The gardens provide a stunning backdrop and atmosphere for any event; the gazebo is especially popular for springtime weddings.

SWAN LAKE HEATH PAVILION
Swan Lake Iris Gardens - 165 Garden Street

Covered Semi-Open Facility with Kitchen - 21 Large Picnic Tables - Seats 210

Description: Heath Pavilion, a rustic indoor/outdoor facility, is surrounded by a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers in a peaceful setting adjacent to the Heath Gardens. The Pavilion is outfitted with a large warming kitchen, twenty-one large picnic tables, ceiling fans and retractable screens to make it suitable for outdoor functions in most types of weather. Restrooms are located nearby. The atmosphere of the Pavilion accommodates every type of group gathering from a country-styled pig-pickin' to a formal wedding reception. The Pavilion can seat 210.
