The Water Department maintains all potable and non-potable water lines which include flow testing, servicing, and replacement of fire hydrants; installation of residential, commercial, and industrial water taps and water metering systems; location, mapping, and maintenance of water valves; 24-hour response to customer problems and emergency repairs; managing public and private backflow devices which prevent cross-connections and protect the potable water system.  All operations of water system maintenance are strictly regulated by the SC DHEC, which inspects our records annually. Utility Repairs & Concerns

Water concerns consist of meter leaks, water service line leaks, discolored water, low water pressure, tap schedules, new meter installations, meter box and lid replacements, water line locations, water main breaks, and water tap locations. All of which is repaired by the City of Sumter Public Works Water Department.
