2024 NOTICE FOR FILING FOR CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR

Filing for City Council Wards 2, 4, 6 and Mayor opens on July 15, 2024 at Noon and closes at Noon on July 31, 2024. (Click here for City Ward map.)

Filing Period Begins:      Monday, July 15, 2024 at Noon

Filing Period Ends:         Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Noon

NOTE: The office will close daily from 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM for lunch and there will not be any scheduled appointments. The last accepted applicant for each day will need to arrive no later than 4:40 PM. 

Filing Form

The Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form required for filing is available in the “Candidate Information” section of scVOTES.gov, at the county election office and at the City Clerk’s Office.

State Ethics Filings

All candidates must electronically complete a Statement of Economic Interest Form and Campaign Disclosure Form as required by the State Ethics Commission and within the deadline established by state law. Please see the State Ethics Commission website for additional information.

TERMS OF OFFICE

Mayor

The term of office of the Mayor shall be for a term of four years. The fee to file for the office of Mayor is $400.

City Council

The term of office for City Council members shall be for a term of four years each so as to stagger the election of members of City Council whereby only three members of City Council will be elected every four years. The fee to file for City Council $240.

Campaign Signage

Candidates competing in the general election on November 5, 2024 can begin placing political campaign signs within city jurisdiction in compliance with applicable requirements on or after Friday, September 6, 2024, with sign removal no later than Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
