Our Sanitation Team can be seen in both the residential and business sector of our City collecting residential garbage, residential recycling, residential yard debris, and commercial garbage and recycling. We navigate the entire city limits every week collecting and transporting the City’s refuse and recycling. Weekly residents are asked to have their roll cart and recycling bin at the curb by 7:00 AM for collection.
The City services between 2500-3500 residential customers per day; collecting and transporting more than 35 tons of refuse daily to the county landfill.
Residential household garbage is picked up at the curbside for all residents inside the City limits. This service is offered every week and is collected on all holidays, with the exception of Christmas day, which will be collected on either the Saturday before or after Christmas day. There is a monthly $10.00 charge for garbage, recycling and yard debris collection from the curb, which is reflected each month on your water bill.
The City furnishes one 90 gallon roll-a-way cart for each resident. If additional carts or containers are needed; they may be purchased from the City of Sumter by calling (803) 436-2558.
We have a 4 man / 4 truck team that works the commercial routes 5 days a week and 1 man / 1 truck working the Saturday route averaging 210 tons of commercial solid waste every week. We offer 2 dumpster sizes — a 4 cubic yard dumpster and an 8 cubic yard dumpster — and offer pickup as many as 6 times a week or a fee which is added to the water bill associated with the business. We also offer 90 gallon carts to commercial businesses that cannot accommodate a dumpster, which is also added to the water bill.
Commercial Recycling Service
Commercial recycling dumpsters and roll-a-way containers are offered to businesses for recycling cardboard and office paper at no charge.
