Sumter Tourism Celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week May 3-8

SUMTER, SC (May 1, 2021) -- In conjunction with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and the National Travel and Tourism Week, local Sumter attractions will be highlighted May 3-8 during Sumter Tourism Week.

Kicking off the week, the Sumter Convention & Visitors Bureau (Sumter Tourism) will host a variety of vendors in front of the Swan Lake Visitors Center, located at 822 W. Liberty Street. Each day various local food trucks, attractions and community promotions will be on hand to help welcome visitors to Sumter.

Vendor activities start around 10 am and end by 4 pm with, with a few exceptions (see below).

“Over the course of this week, Sumter Tourism wants to share a sampling of why we love Sumter,” stated Shelley Kile, Communications & Tourism Director. “There are some fan favorites with local food trucks as well as artists, activities and the always popular Master Gardeners Plant Sale."

Additionally, for the entire month of May, the Tourism Staff have developed a new Sumter Adventures Scavenger Hunt game. Participants race to complete adventures to earn points to win. Participants are encouraged to have fun exploring Sumter, South Carolina and visit the many amenities highlighted in the game. The game is designed to be more self-paced, where participants accomplish goals through submitting photos and videos in an app. The app, called GooseChase, is free to download and participate. The Sumter Adventures Scavenger Hunt game will be live Monday, May 3 through Monday, May 31. Prizes will be offered throughout the entire month for top winners as well as most liked photo in the app, best scenic photo and most missions completed, among others.
