SUMTER, SC (September 20, 2017) – The Sumter Urban Area Transportation Study (SUATS) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) invites residents to participate in an online interactive survey to assist with updating the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).

“The Planning Commission updates our transportation plan every five years and we always seek public input,” stated George McGregor, Sumter City-County Planning Director. “While public input is crucial to the plans development, all improvement ideas submitted will need a great deal of evaluation before they can be added to the project list.”

The survey is available on the city’s website and available to submit at no charge. It includes a question and answer section as well as an area where the public can mark specific areas on a map to highlight improvements needed.

The SUATS organization will also host a public meeting on October 12 in the Swan Lake Visitors Center, located at 822 W. Liberty Street from 5:30-8 PM to discuss the process of updating the LRTP.

SUATS MPO is designated for the urbanized areas of Sumter County. The MPO is the planning organization for the expenditure of Federal and State matching highway funds within the designated areas in the County. All transportation projects in the urban area using state or federal funds must be approved by this organization.

Those interested must complete the survey by October 12. For more information visit the City of Sumter's webpage at www.sumtersc.gov. To access the survey and interactive map directly, visit http://wikimapping.com/wikimap/project1564.htm.
