Curfew remains in place; Administrative offices, public schools closed Tuesday

SUMTER, SC (Oct. 5, 2015) – A curfew for all of Sumter County will remain in place Monday night beginning at 7 p.m. and will last until 7 a.m. Tuesday, and will be evaluated on a daily basis as officials continue to assess and respond to the damages caused by the recent flood.

In addition, schools with the Sumter School District will be closed on Tuesday, and city and county governmental offices will be closed as well.

We continue to ask Sumter County residents to stay off the roadways during the evening hours, as road conditions remain treacherous and continue to deteriorate despite the receding water.

Instead, officials are asking all residents to remain in a safe, dry location until further notice. Two emergency shelter locations, at Sumter High School and the Birnie Hope Center, remain open.

For non-life-threatening matters, Sumter County residents are asked to call the Sumter County Emergency Management offices at (803) 436-2158.    For emergencies, dial 911.
