2023 Sumter Holiday Ornament Announced

In keeping with a long-standing community tradition, the Swan Lake Visitors Center will soon unveil the annual Sumter ornament for 2023. The Sumter series started in 1994 when Sumter Volunteers released its first commemorative ornament, and the Sumter Convention & Visitors Bureau took over the project in 2021.

This year’s ornament highlights the Creative Canvas project that saw large-scale paintings by various artists appear on historic buildings throughout Sumter’s downtown. “Greetings from the Sumter County Museum” is a colorful depiction of scenes from Sumter’s past, as represented on the exterior of the Heritage Education Center on North Washington Street. The painting was completed in 2021 by artist Christopher Johnson and is one of five murals that reflect various aspects of Sumter’s history, beauty, and hospitality.

The 2023 ornament will be released on November 1st and will sell for $20.

Ornaments from 2022 and selected previous years are also available for year-round purchase. For more information on the Sumter Keepsakes ornament series, contact the Swan Lake Visitors Center, M-F from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at (803) 436-2640, or e-mail [email protected].
