City will begin pickup of Flood Debris Monday

The City of Sumter, and our contractors, will begin the process of picking up flood debris from residential homes on Monday, October 12, 2015. We know this will take some time, so if we miss you one day, we will be back around.

If there are items in you yard that are airing or drying out that you plan to keep, please make sure they are separated from your trash piles.

Just as we ask you to separate your regular household garbage from your recycling, your flood damaged garbage should be separated into the following:

  • Yard debris (e.g. tree branches, leaves, logs)
  • Storm (Flood) Debris
    1. Construction Debris: Building materials, drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture, mattresses, plumbing.
    2. Household Hazardous Waste: oils, batteries, pesticides, paints, cleaning supplies, compressed gas.
    3. ‘White’ Goods: refrigerators, washers, dryers, freezers, air conditioners, stoves, water heaters, dishwashers.
    4. E-waste: televisions, computers, radios, stereos, DVD players, telephones.

The following graphic illustrates the above on how you should have your garbage separated at the curb.
