USTA WOMEN’S 60K PRO CIRCUIT EVENT AWARDED TO SUMTER

The City of Sumter’s Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina is hosting their 15th annual USTA Women’s Pro Circuit Event. The City of Sumter is proud to announce that the Palmetto Pro Open will become, one of nine, $60K events in the US! Women ages 14-28 from more than 20 countries will participate in Sumter’s 2023 Palmetto Pro Open $60,000 USTA Women’s Pro Circuit Event. Previous Palmetto Pro Open players like Sloane Stephens, Naomi Osaka, Taylor Townsend, and more continued to succeed and emerge as some of the top players on the circuit to the US Open! Sophie Chang (USA), one of the top-ranked Americans in the field, won the 2022 Palmetto Pro Open Singles 25K. 

The Palmetto Pro Open–Pro Circuit Event debuted in 2008 as a 10K-128 player event. In 2015 the event became one of three 25K events in South Carolina with a 64-player event. It has been one of four USTA Pro Circuit women’s events held in South Carolina each year. 

Our excitement has us all spinning for the 2023 Pro Circuit 60K Tennis Tournament to be held at the Palmetto Tennis Center June 12 - 18, 2023! Singles and Doubles competition of professional women players, most of them in the 18 - 23 age group, vying for prize money and points to qualify them for larger tournaments. The United States Tennis Association circuit for women is designed to help professional players gain the experience and ranking points needed to participate in major events around the world. 

The much-anticipated professional tennis play will begin with qualifying rounds on Monday, June 12 with the main draw 10 am daily (weather permitting) with singles matches in the mornings and doubles in the afternoon. Thursday evening, June 15 is always a special treat during a feature doubles match played at 7 pm. Saturday, June 17 takes to the stadium center courts with semi-finals and doubles finals and Sunday, June 18 is when the skilled power shines in the singles final match. Spectators are encouraged to take advantage of seeing up close and in person the incredible skills and endurance seen on live tv! Don’t miss out on this prestigious sporting event right here in Sumter, South Carolina. Admission for spectators is always free! Shaded bleacher-style seating is available for that up close and personal experience.

About Palmetto Tennis Center: 

Palmetto Tennis Center is a National Tennis Court Complex in Palmetto Park Sumter, South Carolina. It is one of the largest tennis centers in the state. They have 24 lighted hard courts 4 pickleball courts and 8 clay courts currently under construction. All play is free to the community and there is programming available for 4 yr. olds through adults by 4 tennis professionals and a full-service pro shop.

The USTA launched its Pro Circuit 44 years ago to provide players with the opportunity to gain professional ranking points, and it has since grown to become the largest developmental tennis circuit in the world, offering millions in prize money. Last year, more than 1000 men and women from more than 70 countries competed in cities nationwide.
