Proclamation "4th Annual Battle of the Drumlines Day"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

The Marching Knights is the band entity of the music program at Crestwood High School; and 'KNIGHT TRAIN" Drumline and "KNIGHTINGALE" Colorguard fall under this umbrella as well. The Marching Knights have incorporated style that is unique to the Sumter Community and have performed tirelessly at football games, parades, band competitions, festivals and other functions throughout the community, state and country. the Marching Knights have traveled to NC A&T State University to attend University Day, and to Bethune-Cookman College at Daytona Beach, Florida, and have participated in the 2008 Shrine Bowl, Festival on the Avenue, Magnolia Festival, Best Band for the Columbia Carillon Christmas Parade, Sumter County Fair, Local March of Dimes fundraiser sponsored by Tuomey Healthcare System, Officer's Recognition Banquet at Shaw, Universal Orlando Stars Performance Program, Eastover parades and festivals, Sumter County Relay for Life ceremony, and many more community and statewide events. The drumline and Colorguard participated in the local and regional American Heart Walk, Shaw Childcare Development Center celebration, Sankofa Festival. Crestwood High School and the Crestwood High School Parent Volunteers are extremely proud of the Marching Knights Band, Drumline and Colorguard and will sponsor the school's annual BATTLE OF THE DRUMLINES on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Sumter County School District 2 Stadium. drumlines from across the State have been invited to participate in this exciting event, which will include an exhibition performance by North Carolina A&T State University's "Cold Steel" Aggie Drumline and South Carolina State University's "101" Bulldog Drumline. Lemira Elementary School percussion ensemble and Crosswell Elementary School Steppers will also perform. Crestwood High School's Drumline and Colorguard will perform exhibition. The Crestwood High School Marching Knights Band, Drumline and Colorguard deserve special recognition for its many musical contributions to Crestwood High School and the Sumter Community.

 

NOW THEREFORE, I, Joseph T. McElveen, Jr., Mayor of the City of Sumter, South Carolina, do hereby proclaim Saturday, April 30, 2011 as:
