Downtown Sumter Awarded Community Pride Grant

Sumter, SC (March 19, 2018) – PalmettoPride® has awarded Downtown Sumter a 2018 Community Pride Grant in the amount of $5,000, which will be used to purchase additional trash receptacles for the Central Business District.

PalmettoPride® is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization that is a public/private partnership comprised of state agencies, concerned citizens, corporate sponsors, and community and civic organizations with the stated goal of encouraging “behavioral change” in citizens about litter.  They offer grants to individuals, neighborhoods, schools and government agencies assist citizens across the state in helping beautify South Carolina.

The public is encouraged to help. As a condition of the grant, Downtown must also conduct a clean-up, which will be held Saturday, March 24, starting at 10:00 am with sign-in at the Sumter Opera House. “We’d love to have the community come out and help with this great event,” says Owens. “We’ll supply the trash bags, gloves, and maybe even some doughnuts.”
