Downtown Sumter Awarded Community Pride Grant

Sumter, SC (March 19, 2018) – PalmettoPride® has awarded Downtown Sumter a 2018 Community Pride Grant in the amount of $5,000, which will be used to purchase additional trash receptacles for the Central Business District.

 

“Downtown Sumter is growing and expanding,” says Downtown Manager Howie Owens.  “More trash receptacles will help us keep our sidewalks clean as our foot traffic increases.”

 

PalmettoPride® is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization that is a public/private partnership comprised of state agencies, concerned citizens, corporate sponsors, and community and civic organizations with the stated goal of encouraging “behavioral change” in citizens about litter.  They offer grants to individuals, neighborhoods, schools and government agencies assist citizens across the state in helping beautify South Carolina.

 

The public is encouraged to help. As a condition of the grant, Downtown must also conduct a clean-up, which will be held Saturday, March 24, starting at 10:00 am with sign-in at the Sumter Opera House. “We’d love to have the community come out and help with this great event,” says Owens. “We’ll supply the trash bags, gloves, and maybe even some doughnuts.”

 

Downtown Sumter is the Central Business District for the City of Sumter. The district is bordered by Washington to Harvin Streets to the East and West and Bartlette and Calhoun Streets to the North and South.
