Education & Prevention

The Sumter Fire Department is committed to the citizens of Sumter. We have an on-going commitment to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries in the City of Sumter and Sumter County. Our Firefighters go into schools, daycare centers, churches, visit civic groups and are present at all city events and festivals to educate the public on fire prevention and safety.

Come see us for fire safety education and get a glimpse of what we do. Groups may visit the fire stations with an opportunity to see a demonstration with protective clothing and air packs used during fire fighting. Firefighters will also discuss fire safety along with demonstrating various pieces of apparatus according to the time allowed for each visit.

Groups may also visit our training facility for an opportunity to see demonstrations of our aerial trucks in use, auto extrication and more. If you would like more information on how your group could schedule a visit please contact our community risk reduction personnel at (803) 436-2600 or fill out the Fire Education Activity Request form on this page.
