Sumter Receives Top Tourism Award From Governor
Sumter, SC (February 21, 2020)– Governor Henry McMaster presented the Charles A. Bundy Award to the Sumter Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) on Wednesday, February 19 during the annual South Carolina Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel Industry Luncheon in Myrtle Beach.
The Bundy Award is given annually to organizations that demonstrate outstanding efforts to boost tourism in rural areas in South Carolina. “We are honored to receive this award,” stated Shelley Kile, Communications and Tourism Director. “We have had tremendous support from our partners in the Sumter community in making this program such a success.”
The award specifically mentions Sumter’s Passport to Adventure booklet, which highlighted 22 different activities in Sumter County and was free to participate. The program was designed to encourage more people to get outside and explore the Sumter community. The program was also a catalyst for community bus tours as part of the newcomers welcome at Shaw Air Force Base, where more than 4,500 airmen and soldiers continue to participate in annually.
“Our tourism staff always strive to showcase the uniqueness and beauty of the Sumter Community,” stated Mayor Joe McElveen. “We are proud to have such a dedicated staff working so diligently to promote Sumter.”
The Sumter CVB is the tourism development and marketing organization for both the City of Sumter and Sumter County.
