City of Sumter Celebrates Arbor Day with Community Tree Planting

Publish Date
5th December 2025

The City of Sumter marked Arbor Day with a special ceremony today as Mayor Pro Tempore James Blassingame officially proclaimed Friday, December 5, 2025, as “Arbor Day” in Sumter. In partnership with the Council of Garden Clubs of Sumter Inc., the occasion was celebrated with the planting of five new trees—including several fruit varieties—at Westend Park.

Community members gathered to take part in the effort, highlighting the city’s ongoing commitment to nurturing and expanding its urban tree canopy. The event also commemorated Sumter’s 39th consecutive year being recognized as a Tree City USA, a distinction that reflects decades of dedication to environmental stewardship.

A sincere thank-you goes out to everyone who joined in supporting the continued growth and care of Sumter’s trees.
