General Information: Education component – Accessibility2007
Planning for the Accessibility2007 project is well underway. The title and theme of the 2007 event is Sustainability: Green Art – The art of reuse, recycling, repurposing and the environment. Project directors are planning a comprehensive education component that parallels the theme of the current project; however, we are not planning to include an extended in-school residency. Our plans are to have fashion designer and Recycouture project curator, Adrienne Antonson, present a short (4-6 day), in-school residency during the month of September. We would also like to encourage and support a school district-wide initiative to develop curriculum guidelines and study plans which would connect to the Accessibility theme by creatively addressing issues of recycling and sustainability. Amanda Cox, Art Education Director, Sumter County Gallery of Art, will coordinate the Accessibility Education Exhibition at the Sumter County Gallery of Art. Area schools will also be encouraged to maintain an on-going dialogue about the timely issues of sustainability, recycling, reuse and the environment.
For reference, there are many comprehensive educational resources on the internet. Many of these education sites include a number of exciting environment-based projects and the appropriate curriculum guidelines. Please review the following site: www.greenmuseum.org.
