Director of Tennis
Sam Kiser a native of Mayesville in Sumter County, South Carolina is also a native to the Palmetto Tennis Center. Opening April of 2004, Sam and his staff started the center's first day as host to the Carolina Virginia Athletic Conference. The Palmetto Tennis Center is host to approximately 12 to 15 tournaments annually. As Director of Tennis, Sam is continuously growing the tournaments and programs to include Pro and National events. Local tennis play is recreational and professional. The Performance Training Center, implemented in 2012, has continued to show proven success in player development.
Head Tennis Professional
Mark Rearden joined the Palmetto Tennis Center in June of 2010 as the Head Professional. He comes to us from Augusta, Georgia where he worked for over 26 years. His most recent position there was as part owner and general manager of the Petersburg Racquet Club for 5 years and before that, 21 years as the Director of Tennis at the West Lake Country Club. Mark has a P1 rating with the USPTA and a Professional rating with the PTR. He also has a High Performance junior certification from the USTA. He serves as Vice President on the USPTA South Carolina board and on the USTA South Carolina Player Development Committee where he serves as Head Coach for the state’s 10s programs. He has coached hundreds of junior players through their tournament years with many going on to play college tennis. He is considered an expert in player development.
Michael Pereira joined the Palmetto Tennis Center in June of 2012. Michael currently serves as the Palmetto Tennis Center Youth Professional. Pereira brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the game of tennis to the Palmetto Tennis Center. As a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, Pereira is always looking for the best techniques to teach the game.
As the Palmetto Tennis Center’s Youth Professional, Pereira is charged with implementing the USTA 10 and Under Youth Clinics at the Performance Training Center. His focus is tennis development and teaching the youth of the community.
Pereira played his collegiate tennis at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and led the Seahawks to their first two Colonial Athletic Association Championships and two bids into the Division I NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships. Pereira, who is fourth on the UNCW all-time career singles wins list, earned All-CAA honors all four years he played at UNCW. Three of those four years he earned First Team All-CAA in Singles and played in the top two singles positions.
After college, Pereira took his game down to Argentina and Peru for the professional futures tour. His experience on the red clay increased his understanding of the game even more. In his brief coaching career, Pereira has already coached two players that earned NCAA Division I scholarships.
Pereira enjoyed multiple successes himself as a junior in the USTA sanctioned tournaments – winning multiple titles, including the Bullfrog Southern Level 2 National Level 4 in the boys’ 16-and-under.
