Susan Wild

Recreation Programs & Facilities Director

 

Susan Wild was named Recreation Programs & Facilities Director February of 2012.  Responsibilities include management oversight of recreation public relations, programming and facilities development, strategic planning for operational growth of the Palmetto Tennis Center and City of Sumter Aquatics Center.  Other duties include city photography, and special projects. 

 

Previously Susan joined the city in 2002 as the Communications Director with the responsibilities of public relations, marketing, and management oversight for the Sumter Opera House, Tourism Department and tasked with developing Festivals and Events.  In 2004 responsibilities also included the management oversight of the Palmetto Tennis Center, City of Sumter Aquatics Center, the Park Patrol and other related groups and organizations.

 

Prior to joining the City of Sumter Susan was the General Manager for CableVantage, Inc. from 1992 to 2002.  Her background also includes management with a corporate hotel chain, real estate office and a large box retailer starting in the mid 80’s to the 90’s.  Susan attended Okaloosa-Walton Community College and obtained certifications through board and corporate management training.

 

Community involvement throughout the years in Sumter has been important to Susan for her and her family, career and character growth as well as a strong commitment to giving back to the community.  She currently serves as PR Committee Chair for the Chamber of Commerce since 2013 and serves on various other Chamber committees and the Forum for more than fifteen years.  She has served on the Chamber Executive Board of Directors, as past President of the Merchants Association, as the President of the Iris Festival, Sumter Green Chair for more than 10 years, Downtown Promotions Committee Chair for 12 years, Treasure of the Forum for 4 years, Selected for 2006 TWIN Program serving as Communications Chair, served on Sumter County Cultural Commission, Derthick Education Foundation and Sumter County Literacy Council.

 

Married to Robert E. Wild with three children all living in Sumter, Samantha Wild, Drew Huckeba (Brittany), and Jillian Huckeba.
