Step back in time and explore the history of Sumter
at the Sumter County Museum. This Edwardian Mansion was built in 1916 and became the Museum in 1972. The museum exhibits an array of educational information including the unique Carolina Backcountry. Travel back to the days of the settlers and see how to cook over an open fire, use a brick oven and see the blacksmith hard at work. The Backcountry is an adventure you do not want to miss. The “living history” presentation is held every Spring, Fall and Christmas season. The County Museum also hosts a Shrimp Feast in the Spring and an Oyster Roast in the Fall.
