The Sumter Poinsettia Festival consists of varied special holiday events and activities around the Sumter area. Stage performances... home tours... a drive-through nativity... the Swan Lake Fantasy of Lights, to name a few... please join the celebration as Sumter welcomes the season with the sights, sound and tastes of the holidays!
The festival is named in honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first US ambassador to Mexico. An avid amateur botanist, Poinsett imported the plant that has become a symbol of the holiday season, now most widely known as the poinsettia. His burial site is also located at the historic Church of the Holy Cross in Stateburg, South Carolina, in Sumter County.
A short drive from Interstate 95 and within easy driving distance of most of South Carolina's major cities, experience the beauty and joy of the holidays at the Sumter Poinsettia Festival.
