Norvell Jackson

Community Improvement Director


Norvell has served as Director of the City of Sumter Community Improvement Department since September 2007. He has management oversight of three community services H.O.P.E. Centers, Community Development, and Housing.


Prior to the City of Sumter Community Improvement Director position, he was employed by the City in September 2000, worked various departments in Public Services Department, and then in 2002 named the director of the City’s three H.O.P.E. Centers.


Norvell is originally from Sumter. He retired after thirty years of service in the United States Air Force in the grade of Chief Master Sergeant, and the last active duty position held was Command Chief of the 20TH Fighter Wing Shaw Air Force Base Sumter, S.C. in 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources Management Degree from Saint Leo University Shaw Air Force Base Campus.
