Sumter Police Department Partners With Project ChildSafe
Firearm Safety Kits To Be Distributed At Sumter County Fair

Sumter, SC- October is Crime Prevention Month and The Sumter Police Department will be on hand at the Sumter County Fair September 29-October 3, 2009, to distribute free firearm safety kits to local residents. Safety kits, which include a gun lock, are being made available through a partnership with Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearms safety education program. The Police Department will staff a booth throughout the week to provide firearm safety kits and answer citizen’s questions on gun safety and other crime prevention issues.

“We encourage citizens to pick up Project ChildSafe Firearm Safety Kits so they can securely store their firearms,” said Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson. “Gun safety is critical and each citizen can be proactive by properly securing their weapons. Proper storage and handling of firearms can save the life of a loved one. ”

By partnering with Project ChildSafe, the City of Sumter is participating in a national effort to promote firearms safety education to all gun owners.
