DraftsmanThe City Engineering Department consists of a City Engineer, Assistant City Engineer, three Engineering Associates, and an Engineering Secretary. This team helps in construction of all City streets, new water and sewer systems, road paving, storm water drainage and City sidewalks.

NEW WATER & SEWER SYSTEMS

The City Engineering Department is in charge of designing new water lines, sewer lines, Pump Stations, Wells and Elevated Tanks.

They are also in charge of the construction management of new water and sewer system construction. To include inspecting contractors work and insuring projects stay on budget and time.

ROAD PAVING

SurveyorRoad paving is another main concern of the public. The Engineering Department handles the design and construction management for paving dirt roads and resurfacing and repairing existing roads. The vast majority of the streets in the City are owned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Through the use of the "C" Funds or gasoline tax funds, a number of streets have been resurfaced and others are prioritized each year based on the condition of the streets and possible dangers associated with the assessments.

 

STORMWATER DRAINAGE

The Engineering Department evaluates drainage problems inside the City of Sumter City limits. They identify and resolve by designing and construction management of new drain lines. They coordinate permits with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Soil Conservation and EPA.

SIDEWALKS

The Engineering Department is in control of designing and construction management of all new sidewalks in The City of Sumter City limits.
