Welcome to the Sumter Planning & Zoning Department. This department is a joint department supported by the City of Sumter and Sumter County. A combined effort in a planning and zoning department benefits the community as a whole.

The vision of the planning department is to guide Sumter City and County growth to create a world class image and strong community character.

The Mission of the planning department is to fully support all Planning Commission activities while implementing the Comprehensive Plan through superior customer service and full compliance with the Sumter Zoning and Development Standards Ordinance and adopted Building Codes.

The Goals of the planning department play a very important role in where we are today and need to be as a community tomorrow. The planning department is committed to maintaining and implementing the Comprehensive Plan to meet the Community's Vision, provide superior citizen/customer support, Implement an E-Commerce System and improve our ISO Rating.
