New Historic Preservation Design Review Guidelines have been approved. The guidelines are a result of a nine-month public process to help more clearly define the guidelines for both the Hampton Park and Downtown historic districts. The plan does reinforce the City’s commitment to historic preservation. There were no major changes, only more user friendly and information descriptions, including illustrations and examples of what is appropriate.

The next fiscal year budget has been approved with the City’s annual budget balanced at just over $67.2 million dollars. Some of the most significant expenditures are:
One third or $20.3 million goes toward public safety services, including Police, Fire, EMS, municipal court, inspections and enforcement;
One third or $22.5 million goes to water, sewer and stormwater services; and

Council approved some upcoming projects around the community, including Alice Drive Fire Station additions and renovations, Milton Road sewer replacement project, from Jackson Street to Alberta Drive, Philips Street sewer replacement project and the new public safety campus, including a new Police Department Headquarters and a new Fire Department Headquarters to be located at 315/335 North Lafayette Drive, whose groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Monday, January 23rd at 2 PM.

Council approved an ordinance to allow for embellishments on billboard signs, to allow them to be more versatile to owners and more 3-D in design.
Downtown hotel land transfers were given final reading earlier this month and closing on the property is expected within the next week. Land disturbance permits have already been applied for, so they are ready to hit the ground running with the Hyatt groundbreaking very soon. Council also approved a bond with the existing tax...
